I BELIEVE GOD'S TESTIMONY OF HIMSELF

WHAT DO I BELIEVE ABOUT GOD AND HIS SON?

The Hebrew word for believe is Aman, it means to lean upon, picture a person leaning against something.  To believe God is to lean upon God.  This is the word we use to sign every petition we made of God, "Amen.".  In Hebrew the "E"  in the middle of the word "Amen" is pronounce as "Ay" as in HAY.  So you might hear a rabbi say, Amain instead of Amen because the "E" gives the "Ay" sound.
When we say in the name of Jesus Christ Amen, this is what we are are actually saying; in the name of Jesus Christ I believe, or in the name of Jesus Christ I am leaning.
The Hebrew word Aman is transitive, this mean it must have an object.  Belief cannot stand alone, it must have an object on which to believe, you cannot believe in belief.   The object of our belief must be able to sustain that for which we are believing.  I would not lean against a dangling rope expecting it to hold me up.  I would not lean against a four year old baby expecting him to hold me up.  If what am believing in is not able to do that which I am expecting, then my belief will fail.  If I base my belief in how good I can serve the Lord, then my belief will fail.  If my belief is in my own ability to perform for Christ, then I am a failure.   Abraham believed God, leaned upon the promise, released all his doubts, and trust in God, based upon what God had said to him.  Because the object of Abraham's belief was God, his believing could not fail, rather it produced righteousness.
In the Septuagint - the Greek translation of the Hebrew Old Testament - the Hebrew word aman was translated as the Greek word pistuo. So the New Testament word “to believe” means exactly what the Old Testament word “aman” means - to trust or to lean upon. It is this word that we find in these following passages.
“Therefore having been justified by faith (pistis), we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Rom. 5:1)
“For by grace are you saved through faith (pistis) and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast.” (Eph. 2:8-9)
“Believe (pistuo) on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved.”  (Acts 16:31)
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believes (pistuo).” (John 3:16)
In order to receive righteousness from God today, we are to trust Jesus Christ. We are to believe in Him exactly the same way that Abraham believed in Him. God will give you the faith to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, do it today.

I must give credit to "The GraceNet Ministry" for part of this blog, especially the ending that is totally theirs.
