CHRIST AND THE SERPENT

Christ and the serpent

If the serpent is symbolic of sin, why did God told Moses to make a bronze serpent on a pole for the people to look upon for their healing when they were bitten by serpents? If we are bitten by sin (serpent), how then can we look upon the same sin (serpent) to save us?
Most of what happened in the Old Testament was a picture of what was to come. They were pointing to that which would later make real that which were only a shadow. The serpent on the pole was a picture of Jesus who would become the means of our salvation. When sin ran rampant in our lives, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for the ungodly.

John 3: 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

WHY WOULD GOD USE A PICTURE OF HIS SON AS SIN? BECAUSE THAT'S WHO WE ARE. JESUS WAS NOT DYING FOR HIS SINS BUT OURS.

When Jesus hang on the cross he was taking our place, so he could not be seen as a righteous person hanging there, because we are not righteous.
The Bible tells us
2. Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
This is the Lamb of God (perfect from sin), but God looked upon Him as He was looking upon us, sinful and dirty, that He could justify us through the righteousness of Jesus Christ.
So we see the serpent was a symbol of what our Savior was going to do.
Those who looked upon the serpent for the intended purpose God told Moses to make it was healed when they were bitten by serpents. But later we saw that the people started to worship the serpent, and it had to be destroyed by a righteous man. If we do not see Jesus when we look upon the cross and humbly accept what He has done for us, guess what will happen. When we look upon the cross we will see ourselves (who Jesus went there to replace) and start worshipping ourselves.
When we worship ourselves, we are worshipping the serpent, the father of sin. It's either Jesus or the serpent, for no man can serve two master at the same time. What is the choice you chose to make today.

If you already know Christ then pass this to someone who do not know Him.
